Students are introduced to more complex texts and guided to understand sequential development of plot and characterization, as well as accurately refer to texts for their explicit and inferential meanings. Using visual and multimedia elements, students study connotation/denotation, tone, and aesthetic of a text. Students also master English writing standards by practicing all five forms of writing to express, discover, record, develop and reflect on ideas, and problem-solve. They compose longer pieces of literary responses and practice elementary essay writing.
