Introduction
Using a combination of interactive lessons, concept explanations, videos, puzzles, and DIY projects, this class teaches students to write programs that control drones. The coding activities build and reinforce STEM skills in geometry, engineering, math, and science. Students will collect and graph data, calculate speed and perimeter, and creatively solve challenges in small groups.
Please note the time change from the flyer - it is now on Saturdays, 12pm - 2pm.
Lessons
Here is the class outline:
1. Day1-First FlightStudents program drones to fly at different speeds and collect data on distances. |
2. Day2-Math and MapsStudents program the drones to fly in different shapes and predict flight paths on maps. |
3. Day3-Photos and PolygonsStudents learn to program the drone to take photos, calculate drift, and turn specific degrees. |
4. Day4-Carrying CargoStudents calculate how mass affects flight paths and create a search and rescue plan. |
5. Day5-Drones and DesignStudents learn to use the tilt sensor, fly in curves, and coordinate multiple drones. |
