Summer 2020: E103E01 - Writing Workshop 3
Students will write an opinion piece on what they think is the best superpower (flying, mind reading, telekinesis, etc.). They will organize their ideas, conduct research, and interview their classmates for sources. In the second half of the course, they will craft a short story with a unique superhero and design a three-part narrative (beginning, middle, end) with an emphasis on characterization and temporal plot development.
In addition to the one and a half hours of live instruction time, students will have the option to schedule weekly 20-minute sessions for one-on-one guided practice and writing review.
This class will review the following English Language Arts Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERARCY.W.3.1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERARCY.W.3.3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.8: Recall information from experiences or gather information from print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories.
