Grades 3 - 5

Winter 2021: S206C07 - Middle School Science Olympiad

This course is designed for students in grades 5-6 interested in learning general science topics at an accelerated pace. This course is also designed for students who would like a jump-start in knowledge preparation for competing in Science Olympiad with their middle school's science team. The 10-week long session introduces topics in biology. Some examples of lesson topics include cells, heredity, ecology, and anatomy & physiology.

The topics for each lesson are approximately one to two grade levels ahead of the science taught in school. Classes are structured as half-lecture and half-lab. The lab for each class will either relate to the lesson they have learned for that day or be a mock event of a Science Olympiad competition event done in the past. Students will have guided notes and lab worksheets to fill out while following along with the class. For homework, students will work on a session-long science fair project that they will present on the last class.
